You Can Ride the W Train Again Starting on Nov. 7
The W train will be back in service in just over a month, providing a replacement for the coming Q train's altered route.

NEW YORK, NY — The W train will be back in service in just over a month, providing a replacement for the Q train's upcoming altered route.
The W train's return was announced in February, but the MTA said on Thursday the line's official return date will be Nov. 7. The train will run from Astoria, where it will make local stops, to Whitehall Street in lower Manhattan. It will stop along the same seven stops in Queens — Queensboro Plaza, 39th Avenue, 36th Avenue, Broadway, 30 Avenue, Astoria Boulevard, Ditmars Boulevard — the Q train currently makes. It will make all local stops in Manhattan, similar to the R train, but terminating at Whitehall Street.
Like the Q train, however, the W will not run on weekends or late night.

The move is being made by the MTA due to the Second Avenue subway project, the first phase of which was slated to open in December. The MTA cast some doubt on that date in its July Capital Program Oversight Committee Meeting, but the it is still officially saying it hopes to have it open by the end of 2016.
When the Second Avenue line is up and running, the Q train will run north into the Upper East Side instead of crossing over into Queens. It will turn north at 57th Street-Seventh Avenue, go under the southeast corner of Central Park, and then make stops at Lexington Avenue-63rd Street, and 72nd Street, 86th Street and 96th Street along Second Avenue.
