HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Student-built robots will return to the Eugene Levy Fieldhouse at Rockland Community College for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, as 11 teams from the lower Hudson Valley are among the 48 teams that will compete in the 2024 FIRST ® Robotics Hudson Valley Regional.

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a nonprofit organization, founded by inventor Dean Kamen, dedicated to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people. The FIRST Robotics Competition is a program that challenges high school students – working with professional mentors – to design and build a robot to contend in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration and the determination of students.

It's a high-tech sporting event that is exciting to spectators as well as participants, as teams compete for honors and recognition that reward design excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and more.
