$180,000 Approved For Clarkstown Government New Technology Purchases
Bonding covers costs of technology upgrades and security enhancements
The Clarkstown Town Board approved $180,000 for technology upgrades and security improvements for town hall and the police department. The security enhancements include cameras and locking systems. The technology updates for the police department will provide better connectivity between the mobile data terminals (MDT) used in police cars, which issue tickets and accident reports, and the computer system at headquarters. Because the two systems were not communicating, Police Chief Michael Sullivan said a civilian employee had to input the data manually

Sullivan said the interface to improve the sharing of information between the two existing computer systems is costing about $25,000. He said the department will spend about $50,000 for new MDTs, which are being covered by an extended three-year warranty.
In another safety related action, the board approved bids for the purchase of three trailer-mounted mobile generators and two trailer mounted LED light towers. Town Supervisor Alex Gromack said the Rockland County Sewer District obtained grants, which cover the cost of the generators and LED light towers. The town is not paying for the emergency equipment.

After severe storms cut power to sewer pump stations, town officials decided they needed more resources. Gromack said the generators and lights can be used wherever they are needed in town.
“It can be for the police, sewer department, senior center,” he said explaining that if one of the community centers is used to house evacuees one of the generators could be used to provide power.
Sullivan said the light towers can go up to a height of 30 feet and could be utilized at traffic intersections during power outages, accident scenes or sporting events. The two 161-kilowatt mobile generators cost $72,820 each and the 254-kilowatt generator costs $104,225. The 1080 LED light towers carry price tags of $24,199 each.
