ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Two people had to be rescued from an icy embankment early Monday after their car went off the road.

State police asked the Thiells Fire Department to respond to the scene at 4:22 a.m., according to the department’s Facebook post. Two occupants were injured in the one-vehicle crash and required medical treatment.

Due to the icy conditions from the weekend storm, the victims were not able to climb up the 100-foot embankment, officials said.

The department determined the best way to reach them was off of the Palisades Parkway. Firefighters deployed 250 feet of hose as a rescue line to access the patients.

Thiells fire personnel, state police, and emergency medical personnel from Haverstraw and Rockland County worked together to extricate both injured patients and bring them to safety, officials said.
