Vanderhoef Delivers His Final State Of The County Address

2013 State of the County message will be presented at Tuesday's legislature meeting

C. Scott Vanderhoef delivers his final State of the County address on Tuesday before the full legislature. Vanderhoef, who is serving his fifth term as county executive, will present the 2013 message at the legislature’s 7 p.m. meeting. The session is open to the public.

According to spokesperson Ron Levine, the county executive will speak about the county run Summit Park Hospital & Nursing Home, Rockland's financial situation, economic development and transportation.

"He's obviously going to talk about his thoughts on where Summit Park is," said Levine.

Vanderhoef's approximately 30-minute speech will be a perspective on where the county stands and an outlook for its future.

"He's going to be announcing initiatives," said Levine, noting the message will include an overview of the county's challenges, successes and specific changes.

"I think people will get a very good understanding of where the county is in the middle of this year and (for) future years," said Levine.

Vanderhoef has proposed that Summit Park be transferred to a Local Development Corporation so that it can be sold. Summit Park has been a contributing factor in the county's possible 2012 deficit that may reach $111 million or higher.

In October Vanderhoef said he would not run for re-election and the following month stated that he intended to remain in office until the end of his term.

Following the county executive’s speech, the legislature will act on numerous resolutions before it.  Legislators will vote on confirming the appointment of Dr. Laura S. Carbone as county medical examiner. The appointment will be to a four-year term. Dr. Carbone has been serving as acting medical examiner since October 2012 when Dr. Mark Taff resigned. She is board certified in Forensic Pathology, Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.  The legislators will also vote on various expenditures for different county departments.
