Annual Blood Drive In Memory Of Michael Cadyn Bosco Set For Monday

THIELLS, NY — The annual blood drive in memory of Michael Cadyn Bosco will take place Monday.

Michael was 10 when he died after a car crash in October of 2021.

The blood drive will take place on the day after what would have been his 13th birthday, at his school. A lifelong resident of Rockland County, Michael was a fifth-grader at Willow Grove Elementary School in the North Rockland School District. He was a humble and kind boy, beloved by his community and teachers, who recounted that his smile lit up any room he entered.

The annual blood drive was instituted by the Pearl River Masonic Temple in 2021 to honor Michael’s memory. Michael’s family, friends, teachers, and the Rockland community come together every year to organize this event so that others can give the gift of life.

WHEN: 4-8:30 p.m. March 18

WHO: Blood Donors, Volunteers and New York Blood Center Representatives

WHY: It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted eligibility restrictions for individuals who lived in Europe during certain periods of time.
