GARNERVILLE, NY — Firefighters from across Rockland County battled a fire in Garnerville Wednesday morning that spread from the garage to the house.
A "mayday" call was made early on as one firefighter, who had a medical emergency, was extracted from the building and transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Another suffered minor burns and was treated at the scene.
Both firefighters are doing well, Thiells fire officials told Patch Wednesday afternoon.

Getting at the fire was exhausting due to the construction of the home — plaster and lath, and heavy roofing materials — fire officials said.
The fire was deemed under control at about 7 a.m. The investigation as to cause and origin was turned over to the Rockland County Sheriffs Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
