Bomb Squad Secures Korean-Era Munition Found In Hudson Valley Home

RAMAPO, NY — A bit of early spring cleaning led to excitement, and a large police presence in a normally quiet Hudson Valley neighborhood.

A munition found in the basement of a Rockland County home was safely secured Sunday evening.

The Ramapo Police Department responded to the home in the Hillcrest area after the old munition was discovered during a cleanout of the basement. Police said the munition piece likely dates back to a Korean War veteran who once lived at the address.

"Since it was unclear whether the device was live, we contacted the Rockland County Sheriff's Office Bomb Disposal Unit as a precaution," the Ramapo Police Department said in a statement. "They came to the scene, used their equipment to evaluate the device, and safely removed it from the residence without incident. Everything was resolved smoothly."
