Bus Contracts, Hydrofracking Wastewater
Rockland legislative committees meetings on topics from seeking passage of the bi- state watershed act to consideration of a local law dealing with hydrofracking wastewater.

Several Rockland County legislative committees meet Thursday night on a variety of environmental and transportation related issues.
The Environmental Committee will vote on a resolution seeing state approval of the creation of the Rockland Bergen Bi-State Watershed Flood Prevention and Protection Act and to establish the Rockland Bergen Bi-State River Commission. Its members will vote on setting a date for a local law public hearing to ban the treatment of wastewater from hydrofracking in any wastewater plant in the county and to prevent hydrofracking brine from being used on any Rockland roadway.Â

Bus contracts are the focus of two committees. Budget & Finance will review the contract with Hudson Transit Corp. to operate partial Transport of Rockland (TOR) Route 93 service. The contract’s cost is $148,043. An agreement with Rockland Transit Corp. for operation of TOR bus routes 92, 93, 94, 95, 97 and Loops 1, 2, and 3 will be voted on. That contract’s cost is $5,706,306. The Planning & Public Works Committee will vote on Hudson Transit Corp.’s contract to operate Tappan Zeexpress Bus Service for $1,685,809. All three contracts run from April 1, 2103 until June 30, 2013, have a three-month extension option and do not involve any county tax dollars. Â
The Multi Services Committee will vote on a resolution supporting the family of Paula Bohovesky to prevent the parole of her killers. The family is asking the State Parole Board not to release them. The Pearl River teen was raped and murdered 33 years ago. The Public Safety Committee will vote on appropriating $220,000 of federal forfeiture funds to the Sheriff’s Department to use for Comnetix fingerprinting hardware for police departments in the county.
