The Clarkstown Police Department’s Auxiliary Unit marks its 40th anniversary with an awards dinner on Friday, March 8.  Local dignitaries and officials will join the unit’s volunteers to thank them for their service to the town.

The unit’s 29 members provide assistance and operational support to the police department. Their main responsibilities deal with traffic control and pedestrians and they typically help out at parades, street fairs, races and other community events. The unit is described “as an extra set of eyes and ears” for the police department.

“The dedicated members of our organization make every event and responsibility a pleasure,” said Darryl Draper, Clarkstown Auxiliary Police Captain. “This is a remarkable group of people who appreciate and support each other and our community. It is a real honor to have the opportunity to work alongside Clarkstown Police Officers, develop a better understanding of the challenges they face and be able to help them maintain the wonderful peaceful character of our neighborhoods.”
