
The Clarkstown School Board is scheduled to discuss the CVS store proposed for Bardonia at Thursday night’s meeting and will recognize student and staff achievements.
The board will present honor the district’s National History Day State finalists. They are: Kathryn Belkin, Sophia Greenberg, Brian Huang Matthew Jaynes, Hye Soo Jeon Jonathan Josef Scott Martin Eden Nebel and Jenna Ryu of Felix Festa Middle School; Madison Deming, Shelby Hougui, Jake Gogats, Irina Huang and Jacob Kuhn of North High School and Connor Farry, John Margolies, Joshua Masciovecchio and Sharon Mathew of South High School.
The Clarkstown Educational Foundation will present Technology Grants and scholarships. $2,000 grants will be awarded to Link elementary School Principal Francine Cuccia; Patricia Sforzo of Lakewood Elementary School; Christina Calandrello of Link Elementary School and Rosemary DeBarnardis and Alexis Kwalick, both of Felix Festa. A $4,000 grant will be presented to Wayne Merkert of Felix Festa.
Four students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship: Justin Apuzzo, Alex Koppara, Justin Strichartz, and Erica Schutzman.
The 2013 Inductees into the Clarkstown Hall of Fame are Dr. John Krause, former Superintendent of Schools, and Henry (Hank) Cahill, former reading teacher. The program honors staff for significant contributions to the district students in prior years.
The board will vote appointing Georgianna Diopoulos-Grogan as a secondary principal of Felix Festa beginning July 1st. Her annual salary will be $132,500 and her probationary period will end on June 30, 2016. Diopoulos-Grogan takes the place of Kevin Horan who was appointed as campus principal following Dianne Basso’s retirement.
The board will accept numerous donations for various schools.
· A $250 donation from the Clarkstown North PTSA for the purchase of books and DVDs for the school library
· The North PTSA and North Class of '13 are donating a Ram logo metal cutout for the main entrance to the school. The donation is valued at $3,150, the majority of which will be paid by the PTA. The Class of '13 contribution will be determined in late June.
· The Link PTA is donating a rock garden and seating area for students in the Children's Peace Garden. The donation valued at $6,000 including a Japanese Maple and six ornamental grasses.
· Adoptaclassroom.org is donating $400 for the Felix Festa Special Education Spirit class.
· The Link PTA is donating a new outdoor sign for the school in in recognition of the Link Class of 2013. Its value is $558.
· Four community members are donating $3,000 to provide stipends for Birchwood students who participate in the 2013 Birchwood Summer Work Program. School board member Mike Aglialoro and Barry Robins are contributing $1,000 each and Eric Heyman and Steve Oliveira are each providing $500 for the program which gives Birchwood students on- and off-site work experiences and skills training.
