
CLARKSTOWN, NY — The school budget and board vote is coming up May 21.
Six people are running for three seats on the Clarkstown school board. Trustees Christine Alia, Tamara (Tammy) Bierker and Irene Tagaris are seeking re-election. The challengers are Yelena Glukhova, Dana Gropper and Jason Bass. Bierker, Glukhova and Bass are running as a team.
Voters are being asked to approve a budget of $253,179,418 for the 2024-25 school year. One of the top expenses in the budget is $4.5 million for floor tile replacement and abatement at Felix Festa Middle School.

Voters are also being asked to approve a separate proposition authorizing the district to spend $1.198 million out of the School District’s Capital Reserve Fund 2018 and to expend $817,461 out of the School District’s Capital Reserve Fund 2020.
The projects: funding the balance of floor tile replacement and abatement at Felix Festa Middle School; and replacing the Safety-Security Public Announcement systems at Clarkstown High

School North and Clarkstown High School South.
Funds will be withdrawn from the existing funds and will not result in an increase in the tax levy, school district officials said.
Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. May 21.
Registered voters may request an application for an absentee ballot by downloading it or calling (845) 639-6455. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election (if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter) or the day before the election (if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s designated agent).
Early mail voter ballots must also be returned to the District Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. May 21. Registered voters may request an application for an early mail ballot by downloading it below or contacting the District Clerk at (845) 639-6455. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election (if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter) or the day before the election (if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s designated agent).
