Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe announced Wednesday that two Nyack men have been indicted on drug charges following a two-month undercover investigation into narcotics trafficking in the village. Dominic White, 36, of 18 South Midland Avenue and Larnell Fortier, 22, of 408 Nyack Plaza Apartments have both been charged with multiple felonies.
Zugibe said White has been charged with two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, class “B” Felonies and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, class “B” Felonies. Zugibe said Fortier has been charged with one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class “B” Felony, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class “B” Felony, one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a class “D” felony and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a class “D” Felony.
Both were sent to the county jail. Class “B” Felonies are punishable by up to nine years in state prison and Class “D” Felonies are punishable by up to two and one-half years in state prison. White is currently on parole for prior drug sales in Nyack and Fortier is currently on probation for prior drug sales in Nyack.
The arrests stem from an investigation started in March 2013 by the DA’s Drug Task Force, together with the New York State Police CNET Unit, the Town of Orangetown Police Department Detective Bureau, Rockland County Probation Department and New York State Parole Division, to identify street-level, open-air drug dealers operating in Nyack. Zugibe said undercover police detectives and state troopers posed as drug buyers and arranged to purchase powder and crack cocaine and prescription drugs on several occasions from the defendants in exchange for money.
“These arrests once again underscore our continuing commitment to end drug-dealing and reduce drug- based violence within the Village of Nyack,” said Zugibe. “We will not allow career criminals like these defendants to pedal their poison and terrorize our communities.”
