Driver Arrested For Felony DWI After Crashing Into A House: Police

The 61-year-old showed clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, impaired motor function, and an odor of alcohol, cops said.

RAMAPO, NY — Police say a Hudson Valley driver arrested for DWI, exhibited tell-tale signs of intoxication, not the least of which was driving into a house.

The Town of Ramapo Police Departmet responded to W. Eckerson Rd. in Hillcrest last Thursday, around 12:27 p.m., after receiving a report from the Spring Valley Police Department about a welfare check on a driver.

Once on the scene, officers saw the vehicle traveling into oncoming traffic before it veered off the road, struck a curb, and then crashed into a home.

The driver, a 61-year-old male from Monroe, showed clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, impaired motor function, and an odor of alcohol. Officers also saw several open containers of alcohol in the vehicle.

Further investigation showed that he had a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years. The driver was arrested and charged with felony DWI.

The residents of the home were not injured in the crash, police said.

"This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving," police posted on social media. "The Ramapo Police Department remains committed to keeping our roadways safe. If you see a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 immediately."
