Driver Pleads Guilty, Faces Prison Time In Suffern Hit-And-Run: DA
A 73-year-old pedestrian was struck in August and later died from her injuries.
NEW CITY, NY — A motorist who struck and fatally injured an elderly pedestrian in Suffern last summer has pleaded guilty.
Angel Mendoza-Raymundo, 30, of Suffern, entered the plea Wednesday to second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, according to the Rockland County District Attorney's Office.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 8, when Mendoza-Raymundo potentially faces up to seven years in state prison.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said in a statement, “The defendant’s reckless decision to drive under the influence took an innocent life.”
“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, and we hope this brings them a measure of accountability and closure,” Walsh said.

The accident happened on Aug. 16, 2025, around 4:45 p.m.
Mendoza-Raymundo was driving a Toyota Corolla and hit a 73-year-old pedestrian on Lafayette Avenue in Suffern, prosecutors said.
The victim was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, but she died due to her injuries. Officials identified the victim as Liubov Riabovol.
Mendoza-Raymundo fled the scene, but an off-duty police sergeant saw the accident and quickly captured him, according to police.
