Fake $100 Bills Used at Mall Store on 'Black Friday'

As shoppers were taking part of the hectic post-Thanksgiving holiday spending spree at Palisades Center mall on "Black Friday," not all the cash being exchaged was real.

Clarkstown police said six fake $100 bills were used to make purchases at the Lord and Taylor department store at the mall in West Nyack. A Long Island man has been arrested in connection with the bogus bills.

Police said Lucas Carnell, 20, of Freeport, NY, was arrested about 5:40 p.m. on Friday after buying four clothing items worth $578.76 with six $100 bills. Police said store workers discovered the bills were fake and alerted police.

Carnell, police said, was taken into custody after a brief foot chase at the mall. After his arrested, police said they found Carnell had four more fake $100 bills.

Carnell was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court in New City and ordered held at the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City on $10,000 bail pending a hearing on charges of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny.
