
CLARKSTOWN, NY — Services to commemorate the life of Clarkstown Councilman Mark Woods are Tuesday.

A GoFundMe page called "Support Mark Woods' Legacy of Service" has been set up to support the family of the Clarkstown Town Council member who died suddenly at the age of 54.
"My brother-in-law, Mark Woods, was incredible. Everyone who knew him would have to agree. Any help you are able to give will allow us all to say goodbye to him in the way he deserves," organizer John Martin said.

So far $9,704 has been raised of the $12,000 goal.
Woods was in his first year of office, having been elected in November to represent Clarkstown's Ward 1.

"From an early age Mark chose service to others as his life's calling," Town Supervisor George Hoehmann said in an announcement May 17 about Woods' death.
An army veteran, Woods served in Afghanistan. He had been named Rockland County Veteran of the Year for 2024.
The New City resident was a retired detective in the NYPD who worked with the Joint Terrorism Taskforce and on combatting human trafficking. He had previously worked as an Immigration and Naturalization Service special agent and was a licensed funeral director. He was director of The Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer Services program at BRIDGES, a non-profit in Rockland County.
"The entire Town of Clarkstown mourns Councilman Woods and offers prayers and deepest sympathies to his wife Jeanne, son Ray, daughter Maggie, his mother, family and friends," Hoehmann said.
