Good Samaritan, ​Police Rescue Unresponsive Swimmer From Hudson River

Haverstraw police say life-saving measures led to a pulse being regained, and the victim was rushed to the hospital.

HAVERSTRAW, NY — A tense situation had a happy ending after a swimmer was saved from almost certain death this weekend.

The Haverstraw Police Department says that on Friday evening, officers responded to Emeline Park after receiving a report of a drowning in progress in the Hudson River.

With the help of a good Samaritan, officers located an unconscious 52-year-old man about 100 feet from the shoreline. The officers and the bystander entered the river and were able to reach the victim and pull him back to shore.

Once on land, life-saving measures were initiated by police and the good Samaritan, including CPR.

Haverstraw police say a pulse was regained, and the man was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
