Grand Council of United Emerald Societies Endorses Day

County executive candidate Ed Day endorsed by Grand Council of United Emerald Societies

The Grand Council of United Emerald Societies formally endorsed Rockland County Legislator Ed Day (R-New City/Pomona) for county executive. The organization’s President Thomas O’Connor announced the endorsement at Day’s St. Patrick’s Fundraiser on Wednesday night.

The organization represents 20,000 members, and Irish-American police and fire fraternal groups nationwide. O’Connor, a Rockland resident, referred to Day’s community involvement, approachability, and down-to-earth focus as reasons for the support. A performance of the Rockland County Police Emerald Society’s Pipes and Drums Corps and a rendition of “Danny Boy,” a traditional Irish tune, by resident Scott Walters, preceded O’Connor’s announcement.

After accepting the endorsement, Day spoke about his conversations with county residents and their concerns about the future.

“There is a genuine fear I have detected amongst folks here,” he said. “They are afraid that their children and grandchildren will not be able to live here in their hometowns.”

Day went on to state that the November election is the “single most important one in our lifetimes here in Rockland,” and if he is elected as county executive he will “fight to turn this county around, and keep it a place we can call home.”

The other candidates in the race are Democrats former Spring Valley Justice David Fried and Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte
