We’ll start the day with a hike on paved and woods roads and trails in Harriman State Park to the mountain reservoirs that harnessed Horse Chock Brook to provide water supply to Letchworth Village. Hike leaders Gordon Wren and Tony Benedict will talk about Letchworth, founded by William Pryor Letchworth in 1908 and operated as a New York State custodial institution until it closed in 1996, and point out other historic and scenic spots along the Long Path and Woodtown Road.
For those who choose to extend the day, this special Hike through History will conclude at Krucker’s Picnic Grove in Ladentown, where we’ll enjoy traditional Oktoberfest entertainment and fare. (Oktoberfest admission is not included in the hike price.)
Please note: The hike (round trip) is rated moderate and will involve mostly level and gradual uphill grades. Participants must be in good walking shape and wear appropriate hiking boots or shoes. A walking stick is recommended.
