
New City and Congers are holding their traditional Memorial Day Parades during the long weekend.
The Veterans Memorial Association (VMA) of Congers is sponsoring its annual Memorial Day Parade on Saturday. Parade assembly begins at 10 a.m. on Kings Highway across from Bluebird Drive. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m and a service will follow after the parade at the VMA building on Lake Road.
The New City Memorial Day Parade and Service takes place on Monday. Marchers will step off from Calvary Drive and North Main Street at 10 a.m. The parade route follows North Main Street to the Rockland County Courthouse where a ceremony will be held.
The annual Watchfires Vigil begins with a ceremony at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. The Watchfires will be lit at midnight and kept burning through Thursday, May 30, the traditional Memorial Day.
The Watchfires, organized by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 333, will be located at Piermont Pier in Piermont, Clausland Mountain in Orangeburg, Eugene Levy Park in Pomona and Bowline Park in Haverstraw. For information about other Memorial Day events and services, go here.
