Wednesday night the New City Generals traveled to Mount St. Michael’s Academy to take on the number 2 seed in the Westchester Wood Bat Spring League Championship game.  A hard fought pitcher’s duel was ultimately won by the Generals on near flawless pitching by Jason Contreni and Drew Resciniti as well as bullet proof defense in the field.  Although the bats on both teams were virtually silenced, the 2-1 final score made for an exciting nail-biter for the many parents and fans that came out to enjoy some great baseball on a beautiful night in the Bronx.

The Generals started their season in late March and played various teams from Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and the Bronx.  Teams from neighboring counties played double headers every Sunday and the season culminated with a playoff tournament that began on June 9th on Randall’s Island where the Generals took on the Titans in a Play-in game in to determine the number four seed.   The Titans and Generals were both tied for fourth place during the regular season.

The Generals defeated the Titan’s 2-1 to capture the number four seed and were then slotted to play the Raiders; the number one seed.  Once again the Generals prevailed 6-2 after 10 innings of play.  The game was tied 2-2 after 7 inning of regulation play and finally in the top of the 10th the Generals put up 4 runs and then shut down the Raiders in the bottom of the tenth who were threatening with bases loaded and only one out.  Due to time restrictions on the field at Randall’s Island, the final championship game between the Generals and Pro Swing pride, from the Portchester area, had to be rescheduled to last night in the Bronx.

After the game, Head Coach Andy Strum said “they clearly earned winning the championship. They beat 3 very good teams and each game could have gone either way.  I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
