The Rockland County Office for the Aging Advisory Council is accepting nominations for the 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year and Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen Awards.
The criteria for Senior Citizen of the Year are age 60 and older and a Rockland resident who volunteers for creating or planning programs that provide services and activities to improve the lives of senior citizens. Additional volunteer work would be considered. The guidelines for Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen are age 60 and over and county resident who volunteers to help senior citizens. Again, volunteer work in other areas will be considered. A person can be nominated for both awards.
Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef will present the two awards at a ceremony during Annual Senior Awareness Day on Wednesday, May 22 at Rockland Community College and then the awardees will also be recognized at a luncheon.
“The Annual Awards Ceremony is a great way to show our appreciation and honor the senior citizens in our community for giving freely of their time to improve the lives of others,” said Vanderhoef.
