Opposition To Use Of Hydrofracking By-Products

The Rockland County Legislature holds a public hearing on Tuesday on a local law to ban the use of hydrofracking by-products in the county. The resolution, introduced by Legislature Chairwoman Harriet Cornell would bar the treatment of hydrofracking wastewater in any wastewater treatment plant in Rockland and prohibit the use of hydrofracking brine to treat roads in the county. The public hearing begins at 7:05 p.m.

The legislature will vote on bonds for upgrading computers, creating a county computer network disaster recovery project and upgrading Rockland Community College’s utility plant. Legislators will consider a resolution to name Rockland a  “Purple Heart County,” that honors the men and women killed or injured while serving in the Armed Forces.

They will vote on a resolution asking the state legislature to pass a bill preventing elected officials who are convicted of felonies while in office from keeping their pension and retirement benefits.
