Burning American Flags Caused Pickup Truck Fire: Police

Clarkstown police report they are conducting an arson investigation into the fire that damaged a pickup truck parked at the Palisades Center on Monday night.

Police report the fire may have been set to flags attached to the truck.

“It appears that there were two American flags which were attached to poles on either side of the bed which were set on fire,” said Sgt. Jo Anne Fratianni.

The West Nyack Fire Department responded to the call and found the bed of the 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck on fire possibly from embers that spread from the flags. Fratianni said witnesses described a small red vehicle possibly occupied by two white females and a black male wearing a blue baseball cap that was parked near the pickup truck and left quickly after the fire started.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Clarkstown Police Department at 845-639-5800 or the TIPS line at 1-877-639-6233.
