Proposed Little Tor Substation Up For Review

The Clarkstown Planning Board meets tonight to review documentation regarding the proposed Little Tor Substation.  The materials include a Scoping Document and Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the facility proposed by Orange & Rockland for 10.2 acres at the southwest corner of Little Tor Road and South Mountain Road. 

O&R is seeking site plan approval and a special permit for a new electrical substation, upgraded gas regulator and upgraded cell tower antenna on company owned property.

Under the State Environmental Quality Review Act guidelines, the planning board determined the project could have potential impacts on water, air and public health and requested an evaluation of alternate sites. At meetings and public hearing in 2012, community residents opposed the expanded facility, citing safety and other concerns. O&R said the proposed substation was necessary to meet growing demand in northern New City.  The initial DEIS was submitted in 2010.

The planning board will hold a final hearing on Mercedes Benz’s application to build a 3,513-square-foot service and check-in area and 1,195-square-foot showroom at its current site on Route 304 and Pralle Lane in Nanuet. It will continue reviewing the proposal for Bardonia Four Corners, a 4,000-square-foot, one-story commercial building on .53 acres in Bardonia. The property is located at the intersection of Ludvigh Road and Route 304.
