Orthodox Ramapo Resident Accosted, Stabbed In Driveway
While the motive is not yet known, Rockland's Human Rights Commissioner deplored violence due to 'animus.'
RAMAPO, NY — A Ramapo resident was accosted and stabbed in his driveway Thursday evening.
Ramapo police said they responded at 8:27 p.m. to a report of an assault with a knife at Trailside Place. Officers said the victim had been accosted in his driveway and then stabbed multiple times.
The 39-year-old Orthodox Jewish man told detectives that he did not recognize the man, ABC7NY reported.

Transported to the hospital, the victim is currently in stable condition and expected to survive, police said.
"While the motive in the attack is not yet known, the Rockland County Human Rights Commission refuses to normalize any form of animus informing such inhuman abhorrence against any group," Human Rights Commissioner Spencer Chiimbwe said in a statement Friday. "Let us continue using our collective voices in sending a message that hate has no home in Rockland County and such incidents are totally unacceptable."

Patrol officers located a possible suspect, who was detained and brought to the Ramapo Police Department for questioning. He was cooperative and released from custody pending further investigation, police said.
The Ramapo Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the Clarkstown Police Department, Hatzolah Ambulance Corps, and Chaverim of Rockland.
The Ramapo Police Department has increased patrol presence throughout the town, police said.
