Rash of Thefts from Cars Hits Pearl River

Police urge residents to lock their car doors, don't leave valuables in the car.

Orangetown police are urging residents to lock their car doors when their vehicles are unattended in the wake of a new wave of thefts from unlocked cars over the weekend.

This time the thefts were reported from late Saturday into early Sunday on at least four streets in Pearl River:

- Wildwood Drive

- Old Middletown Road

Police said personal items, personal electronics and cash were taken from unlocked cars. Such incidents have previously been a problem in the Nyack area.

In addition to keeping cars locked, police urge residents not to keep valuable items in their cars, including cell phones, GPS units, MP3 players, wallets and pocketbooks.

Police also urge residents to call them at 845-359-3700 if they see something suspicious in their neighborhood.
