RCC Black & Latinx Achievement Award Winner: New City Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in New City.

NEW CITY, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Ricardo Schiavo who nominated his daughter Anita, a sixth-grader who lives in New City.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Anita is a 6th-grade student at Felix Festa Middle School. She recently won the National History Day competition in the Lower Hudson Valley region for the 6th-to-8th-grade individual website category with a website about Rosalind Franklin. She was awarded a SUNY Rockland Community College Black & Latinx Achievement Award for outstanding academic achievement and community leadership. Anita is a sweet kid who loves school, plays basketball, participates in the drama club and the Troop 79 Scouts of America in New City.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Dedicated and smart second generation Brazilian American immigrant.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Anita!
