Rescuers Give A Hawk In A Desperate Bind Its Wings Back

With an assist from the Tallman Fire Department, Ramapo police were able to give the imperiled raptor a chance to take flight again.

RAMAPO, NY — Police helped save a bird of prey from a tricky predicament high above a Hudson Valley graveyard.

Ramapo Police Department officers went to Evergreen Cemetery, in the Village of Airmont, after getting a report about a hawk trapped in a tree, its legs caught and unable to break free. The Tallman Fire Department was requested to the scene and helped safely free the bird from its precarious perch, according to the police department.

"We're pleased to report that once released, the hawk was able to fly away unharmed," the department said in a social media post. "Ramapo PD takes pride in serving and protecting all members of our community — including our animal ones."
