Rockland Co. Celebrates Law Day May 1

From the Rockland County Bar Association: Law Day will be celebrated in Rockland County on May 1 in the Jury Assembly Room at the Rockland County Courthouse.
This year's national Law Day theme is: "The 14th Amendment- Transforming American Democracy".
Robert B. Marcus, President of the Rockland County Bar Association, will present the Liberty Bell Award to Martha Robles, Executive Director for Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCSR), located in Haverstraw, New York. The Liberty Ball Award is the Bar ASsociation's annual award to a community member for outstanding service in promoting a better understanding and respect for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and our institutions of government.

Mr. Marcus said of Ms. Robles, "her commitment to social justice and equality is what has truly distinguished her. Her work at Catholic Charities since 2006, and her advocacy for those persons who are unable to speak for themselves are her hallmarks. Ms. Robles is also an active member of the Rockland Immigration Coalition, Continuum of Care, the Haverstraw/Suffern Collaborative and the Rockland Rent Guidelines Board. Ms. Robles has worked with many of the agencies throughout Rockland to help resolve crisis whether it's preventing eviction, making sure food is on the table, or advocating for a fair and just society".
The guest speaker will be Alan Rosenblatt, Esq., partner in the law firm of Montalbano, Condon and Frank, P.C., who will speak about the Fourteenth Amendment and its reshaping of American law and society.

The Rockland County Women's Bar Association will present their annual award to the winner of the Law Day Essay Contest. This year's winner is Meghan Castellano, a Senior at Tappan Zee High School. Ms. Castellano will receive a check for $1,000.00 and a certificate from the Rockland County Women's Bar Association.
The Suffern High School Select Choir, Alice Biss-Adams, Conductor, from Suffern High School, will perform.
