ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — The voters have spoken and Rockland County's leaders have been chosen.

The New York State Board of Elections numbers said Monday that a total of 2,985,181 state residents voted early between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3. The state also released new voter enrollment numbers as of Nov. 1 showing that there are 13.6 million total voters in the state — 12.4 million of them active. There are 5.9 million registered active Democrats, 2.8 million registered active Republicans and 3 million nonaffiliated with any party.

First-term Rep. Mike Lawler (R,C-17) campaigned to keep his seat representing Rockland County and protect the Republicans’ slim majority in the House of Representatives.

Lawler's challengers were former incumbent Mondaire Jones (D) and a third Rocklander, Anthony Frascone grabbed the Working Families party line in the Democratic primary.

The New York Working Families Party started running an ad in late October telling voters in the 17th that Frascone was a “fake candidate.” Party leaders accused Frascone, a former registered Republican, of working as a spoiler to benefit Lawler, according to City And State New York. The race has been among the most expensive nationally. According to an FEC summary of campaign fundraising, as of Oct. 31, Jones was ranked 20th among all 2,937 candidates for the House, followed by Lawler at No. 34. The FEC had no contribution filings from Frascone.

In Rockland County, eyes were also on the second re-match between incumbent state Senator Bill Weber and former incumbent Elijah Reichlin-Melnick in District 38. Weber lost to Reichlin-Melnick in 2020 and then won in 2022. Barbara Francis is also on the ballot.

Also, locals were watching the three-way race in Rockland for State Assembly District 97. Incumbent John McGowan (R) has been challenged by County Legislator Aron Wieder (D).

Plus, Rockland’s political maneuverings this election season produced another mystery candidate. In the State Assembly District 97 race, Thomas F. Sullivan appeared on the Conservative line, and did not campaign.
