UPDATED: Thefts From Motor Vehicles Reported In Clarkstown

Since mid May, the Clarkstown Police Department reports an unspecified number of thefts from motor vehicles in New City, Nanuet, Congers, Valley Cottage, Bardonia and West Nyack have taken place. Unlocked vehicles parked in residential areas in driveways and in the street have been targeted. Loose change, small electronic items, briefcases and duffle bags have been reported missing.

Sgt. Jo Anne Fratianni said the incidents took place in:

  • New City on Parker Ave, Broward Drive, Birch Lane, Oak Road
  • Nanuet on Smith Road
  • Congers on Kings Highway, New York Ave, Ohio Ave
  • Bardonia on Bardonia Road, Saymor Drive
  • West Nyack on Western Highway
  • Valley Cottage on Sunset View Drive, Stockton Road 
Police are not releasing information about what time of day the incidents occurred but remind residents to take the following crime prevention steps throughout the day: lock all vehicle doors, close all windows, and do not leave personal items in plain view.

Anyone who is a victim of a larceny should report it immediately to the police and not touch or disturb anything. Clarkstown police ask residents to report suspicious vehicles and or persons in their neighborhood. A similar rash of incidents hit Pearl River in February and there was a series of car break-ins in New City and Nanuet in November and December 2012.
