The outlook for this week is not promising and Rockland officials want residents to be prepared for more downpours falling on the already saturated ground and fast flowing streams and rivers. The Rockland County Office of Fire & Emergency issued an advisory Monday afternoon calling for at least three more bands of heavy rains through Friday.
Nyack business and homeowners are not taking chances and sandbags are already been in place. Few pedestrians are seen on local streets.
The county’s advisory warns of the possibility of one inch to one and three quarters of an inch of rain from Monday night through Tuesday. The National Weather Service has posted a Flood Watch through midday Tuesday with the potential of minor urban flooding in poor drainage and flooding of small streams and rivers. Then later Tuesday, the chance of thunderstorms arrives with more drenching rains and strong gusty winds.
Wednesday could be a short-lived improvement with showers but low pressure could bring the return of heavy rain Thursday through Friday.
