Thruway Service Area Worker Went On Shopping Spree With Card Left Behind By Customer: NYSP

The 28-year-old faces grand larceny and identity theft charges after making $1636.18 in purchases at businesses throughout Spring Valley.

SLOATSBURG, NY — A crime of opportunity could have big repercussions for the Thruway service area employee accused of going on a shopping spree at a customer's expense, according to state police.

New York State Police say that on August 11, around 8:21 p.m., troopers responded to the Sloatsburg service area after receiving a report of a larceny.

An initial investigation found that 28-year-old Raufoliana O. Louis Jean, of Spring Valley, an employee at the service area, used a credit card accidentally left behind by a patron to make $1636.18 in purchases at businesses throughout Spring Valley, police said.

On August 12, state police arrested Louis Jean on two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree identity theft.

She was taken to SP Tarrytown for processing and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Sloatsburg Village Court on August 27.
