Vehicle Crashes Into Curley’s Corner In Suffern: PD

The driver was found unconscious inside the vehicle; the restaurant is closed until further notice.

SUFFERN, NY — A motorist crashed into the front entrance of a local business, Curley’s Corner, on Tuesday.

Police said the accident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the 84 Orange Ave. restaurant, which is owned by Mayor Michael Curley.

When officers arrived, they found the driver, a 56-year-old Suffern resident, unconscious inside the vehicle, according to police.

Emergency personnel extricated the driver, who needed emergency lifesaving efforts, police said. The driver was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further advanced medical care. The driver remains hospitalized as of Wednesday, police said.

When asked if the driver’s condition was due to the crash, or if the person suffered an unrelated medical issue, police Lt. William Simurra said the cause and circumstances remain “under investigation.”

The Ramapo Police Department’s accident investigation team is assisting Suffern police.

Officials with Suffern’s code and building departments conducted a damage assessment of the building, and concluded it is safe for residents to return, according to police.

The business’ Facebook page indicates it is closed until further notice, due to the car hitting the building.

Curley could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
