5 Men Charged With Selling Tobacco Products To Minors: Police

As part of the county's "Project 21" initiative, which targets the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco to minors.

MINEOLA, NY — As part of the "Project 21" initiative, which targets the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco to minors, five men were arrested on Friday, Nassau police said.

The men arrested were:

  • Mohammeds Ahmed, 32, of, Elmont, who sold products to a minor at Cigar Shop, on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square.
  • Ambalal Patel, 49, of Queens, who sold products to a minor at Dogwood Smoke Shop, on Dogwood Avenue in Franklin Square.
  • Alex Bonilla, 41, of Elmont, who sold products to a minor at Elmont Grocery, located on Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont.
  • Bah Ahmedou, 22, of Brooklyn, who sold products to a minor at Linden Exotic, located on Linden Boulevard in Elmont.
  • Justin Joyner, 21, of Queens, who was in possession of a large quantity of marijuana at Linden Exotic on Linden Boulevard in Elmont.

Ahmed, Patel and Bonilla are all charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and other violations, police said.

They were released on appearance tickets for a court date on March 27.

Joyner is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of cannabis, police said. He was expected to be arraigned on Saturday.
