Belmont Park Redevelopment Gets Final Beam From Hochul
The governor touted local business opportunities, tourism and union jobs in her remarks on the event.
ELMONT, N.Y. — Governor Kathy Hochul joined construction workers, developers, elected officials and representatives from the New York Racing Association Wednesday to place the ceremonial final beam at the new Belmont Park racetrack.
The ceremony comes amid a multiyear redevelopment at Belmont Park that the governor’s office said will feature a 300,000-square foot amenities and hospitality building, a modernized barn area, a trio of new dormitories and several improvements to the racetrack’s backstretch. The redeveloped facility will also feature four new race surfaces—one traditional 1.5-mile dirt track, one mile-long tapeta track for winter use, and two turf courses—the governor’s office said.
“Today marks a major milestone for Belmont Park and New York State,” Gov. Hochul said in a news release. “This project is more than simply rebuilding a racetrack — it’s creating jobs, boosting our economy and ensuring Belmont remains a world-class destination.”

The redevelopment of Belmont Park will also bring the Belmont Stakes back to Nassau County in 2027, marking a homecoming for the third leg of horse racing’s “triple crown” after three years at its temporary home at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs. Hochul announced in May that the 2027 Breeder’s Cup, last held in New York in 2005, would return to Belmont Park in 2027.
