Herricks Senior Advances To Finals In Regeneron Science Contest
He's among 40 students vying for the $250,000 top prize.

HERRICKS, NY — A high School student from Herricks is one of the top 40 finalists in the 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search, the prestigious national science contest.
Senior Sandeep Sawhney’s project "Gallium Mediated DNA Tensegrity Triangle Based Crystals: A Novel Prototype Facilitating Gallium Cancer Therapy" was selected among 300 semifinalists.
He'll compete for more than $1.8 million in awards, including the $250,000 top prize.

Sawhney is working to create a better delivery system for gallium cancer drugs. These drugs are effective in fighting cancer, but they eat through typical gel capsules resulting in damage to healthy tissues and lower drug efficacy.
"I have had Sandeep for four years in the Science Research program and can think of
no greater honor than this recognition," said science research coordinator Caitlin Etri.

Finalists will participate in a week-long competition from March 6-12.
