Members of the community are showing tons of support for family that lost two of its members in a New Hyde Park house fire on Sunday morning. Two grandchildren, a 4-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy, were staying over their grandparents' home in North 12th Street in New Hyde Park when the house went up in flames shortly after 3 a.m. The grandmother, 68-year-old Maria Karpinski, and granddaughter, 4-year-old Brooke Schillizzi, died from their injuries in the blaze.A GoFundMe page has raised more than $136,000 in just two days. A GoFundMe representative says they are making sure the funds go directly to the family."The family is devastated and in need of our support," the GoFundMe organizer wrote.
