How To Help Family Of Victims In Fatal NHP House Fire

A donation page has raised more than $136,000 for the family in just two days.

Members of the community are showing tons of support for family that lost two of its members in a New Hyde Park house fire on Sunday morning.

Two grandchildren, a 4-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy, were staying over their grandparents' home in North 12th Street in New Hyde Park when the house went up in flames shortly after 3 a.m. The grandmother, 68-year-old Maria Karpinski, and granddaughter, 4-year-old Brooke Schillizzi, died from their injuries in the blaze.

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $136,000 in just two days. A GoFundMe representative says they are making sure the funds go directly to the family.

"The family is devastated and in need of our support," the GoFundMe organizer wrote. "We are raising money to help with anticipated medical bills, funeral costs, time off of work, and anything else they may need to navigate this unfathomable ordeal."
