Nassau District Attorney, DOJ To Investigate George Santos: Reports
District Attorney Anne Donnelly confirmed her office has opened an investigation into Rep.-Elect Santos: "No one is above the law."

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The Nassau County district attorney's office has opened an investigation into incoming LI Republican congressman George Santos, Anne Donnelly told Newsday on Wednesday afternoon.
Donnelly, a Republican, told the paper in a statement that the background fabrications Santos has admitted to "are nothing short of stunning."
"The residents of Nassau County and other parts of the third district must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress. No one is above the law and if a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it," she said.

A spokesperson for the office confirmed that they "looking into" Santos but didn't offer further details.
Multiple sources reported that federal prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of New York have also started looking at Santos and his public financial filings.

ABC's sources said there was no active formal investigation, but that it was a "preliminary look" at Santos' congressional filings that showed when he ran for Congress in 2020, he had no assets and an income of $55,000. The origin of the millions in assets he then disclosed in his 2022 filings have been under scrutiny, along with the source of the approximately $700,000 he loaned his own campaign.

The embattled 34-year-old Republican congressman-elect for the 3rd District said he didn't graduate from Baruch College or NYU, as he claimed, or any other college. Numerous other claims Santos made while campaigning have since come into question.
Patch's requests for comment have not been answered by Santos.
