New Hyde Park VFW Closes After 73 Years
After serving veterans throughout the community, the New Hyde Park VFW has closed.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars post in New Hyde Park, which was founded in 1946 after World War II, has closed.
The VFW Gerard & Eugene Linder Post 8031 shut its doors on April 15 citing declining enrollment, and had only four active members.
Once a prolific community resource committed to bridging the gap for returning veterans to adjust to civilian life, the New Hyde Park VFW once had 250 members.

Members said recent deaths and difficulty recruiting younger members led to the closing.
For years, members met at different locations in New Hyde Park, but found a home base at the Marcus G. Christ Community Center.
