Officer Injured After Getting Rear-Ended During Crash Investigation

Authorities say a highway patrol officer was injured when his vehicle was rear-ended during a separate crash investigation in Nassau County.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A Nassau County police officer was injured when his vehicle was rear-ended while investigating a separate crash Tuesday in New Hyde Park.

Authorities say the highway patrol officer was responding to an eastbound car crash near Exit 36. While in his patrol car, with the emergency lights activated, a 2012 Isuzu truck crashed into the back of his vehicle.

The officer suffered injuries to his neck and back, according to police. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation.

The driver of the truck, only identified as a 63-year-old man, was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the second crash are under investigation.
