Playground in Phillippines Dedicated to New Hyde Park

The high school donated funds that will be put towards the playground.

A playground in Alaminos City, located in Pangasinan, Philippines will bear the name of New Hyde Park Memorial High School thanks to a fundraiser held by the school’s Key Club.

The Key Club recently organized a Denim Day to raise funds for the Alexander Begonia Foundation. Alex, the namesake of the organization, is a special education student at New Hyde Park with Down syndrome. His family started the foundation in his name 17 years ago to benefit the less fortunate. The foundation’s goals include providing scholarships to high school and college students, providing nourishment to under-privileged elementary and special needs students, and establishing and supporting special education programs for special needs children. In addition, the organization conducts medical missions and builds playgrounds.

Thanks to the generosity of the faculty and staff, the Key Club donated more than $400 to the foundation. The funds raised will be used to construct a playground at an elementary school in Alex’s parent’s hometown of Alaminos City, Pangasinan, Philippines.
