SMART Van To Give Older North Hempstead Residents Tech Understanding

It's available at various locations in the town during March and April.

NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — The Town of North Hempstead is bringing forward technology to help older members of the community.

The Senior Mobile Access to Resources & Technology (SMART) Van will various several locations in the coming weeks.

"It feels like technology is advancing so quickly that we barely have time to learn it, and that can be pretty overwhelming." Supervisor Jennifer DeSena said. "The SMART Van program is an easy, stress-free way to hone basic tech skills as we work towards incorporating it into our everyday lives."

The SMART Van has a mobile technology lab that engages in informal counseling with seniors by providing technological training and connections to resources. Visitors to the van will learn how to use a tablet, connect to wi-fi, send and receive emails and discover how technology can improve their overall well-being.

The SMART Van will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, March 19 at Clinton G. Martin Park, 1601 Marcus Ave., New Hyde Park
  • Friday, April 11 at the Port Washington Adult Activities Center, 80 Manorhaven Blvd., Port Washington
  • Friday, April 25 at the Yes We Can Community Center, 141 Garden St., Westbury
