The New York Blood Center (NYBC) has declared a blood emergency due to a severe decline in local blood donations. According to NYBC, only 2 percent of New Yorkers donate blood, compared to the national average of 3 percent.

All donors are required to bring an ID with their name and photo. Please remember to eat and drink before your donation.

The summer blood drive takes place on August 13 at Clinton G. Martin Park on Marcus Avenue.

“If just 1 percent more New Yorkers stepped up to give blood — about 195,000 new donors — we could cut the shortfall in half and bring real stability to our blood supply, especially as we prepare for emergencies and trauma season,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Vice President at New York Blood Center.
