2 Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital Employees Honored

Both were awarded the Laura Goodale Award, in honor of a nurse who dedicated 39 years of caring service to the hospital.

GREENPORT, NY — Two Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital employees have been honored with the esteemed Laura Goodale Award for 2024.

This year's winners include Jose Vargas, LCSW-R, CASAC 2, and Erin Corazzini, LPN. The award, established in 1986 by Carl E. Vail, Sr. and the Southold-Greenport Rotary, recognizes individuals who exemplify the spirit of Laura Goodale, a former ELIH nurse "renowned for her extraordinary service," according to the hospital.

"Vargas has been a vital member of the Behavioral Health Team, serving as a clinical supervisor at Quannacut Outpatient Services since 2015. Rising from personal challenges, Mr. Vargas humbly accepts this award, highlighting his deep passion for helping people and dedication to fostering an exceptional and collaborative work environment," the hospital said in a release.

And, the SBELIH added: "Ms. Corazzini comes from a line of SBELIH caregivers, as both her parents worked at the hospital. Her dedication to treating all patients like family has earned her admiration from colleagues and physicians alike. With a positive rapport with all and a strong advocacy for patients, Ms. Corazzini embodies the values of compassionate care and empathy."

SBELIH Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services Suzie Marriott congratulated both honorees, emphasizing their outstanding commitment to patients, colleagues, and the community. "They both fly under the radar, help others in a kind and supportive way with humor and professionalism,"" she said.

The Rotary Clubs of Southold and Greenport expressed their happiness in presenting the 36th Nurse Laura Goodale Memorial Award to Corizzini and Vargas.

The award continues to honor the legacy of Laura Goodale, "whose 39-year service at Eastern Long Island Hospital left an indelible mark on the community," SBELIH said.
