MATTITUCK, NY — The owners of a beloved local Mattituck eatery and gathering spot are bidding adieu: East on Main will serve its last customers on Saturday.

"It is always important to know when something has reached its end," owner Stephanie Piraino wrote on Facebook. "Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesn't matter what we call it; what matters is to know when to begin new chapters to our story."

She added: "It is bittersweet, but our end has come at East on Main."

Saturday will mark the final day. "It was a privilege to be part of the fabric of the community, one we never took for granted," she said. "This was truly a labor of blood, sweat and tears; one that we will forever remember with fond memories."

Speaking with Patch, Piraino added: "I think the biggest thing is, I hope people know that we were vested — we truly cared about the product we put out and the atmosphere we created. Now it's time to have another adventure."

The years since opening have not been easy, she added, but the joys were forever.

"We battled a pandemic, met the most amazing people, watched as new relationships were fostered and old ones became stronger," Piraino said. "We loved listening to the stories that the walls of the building have told through the years — and will always remember the new memories that we helped to make."

Fellow business owners and patrons, saddened by the news, thanked the Piraino family on social media for always persevering, always being the first to step up to help with a community fundraiser, always putting their hearts into the venture.

"Our hope is that you all enjoyed being part of our story, that all who passed through our doors left with full bellies, and fuller hearts; and that East on Main will hold a small piece in the heart of Mattituck," Stephanie and Tony Piraino wrote. "Thank you to everyone who supported us these last five years. Until we meet again."

East On Main celebrated its grand opening at 10560 Main Road in September 2018.

The new restaurant was dubbed a "farm country grill room and nautical tavern" that featured home-cooked meals "stolen right from Mom's kitchen."

The eatery, which featured the motto, "Eat Like A Farmer, Drink Like A Sailor" also featured a host of football and happy hour specials on various days of the week, brunch, music, pool, dancing, and a private room for functions.
