Jan. 9: How to Spell Gilbert, Gershwin and Sullivan
A snowy Sunday offers unique musical performances and auditions for a play about a spelling bee.

The music of Gilbert and Sullivan, Gershwin and Handel will fill the air while wordsmiths have the opportunity to try out for a play about a spelling bee on this cold and snowy North Fork Sunday.
1. The in Mattituck will hold open auditions at 6:30 p.m for an upcoming production of the play, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The session is open to all but you better know your Broadway hits, as the try-out requires you to sing a few bars of theatrical fovorties. 2. Piano virtuoso Anne Taffel will perform her smoking solo piano versions of Gershwin and Handel songs at 2 p.m. at the . The event is free and open to all. Call 631-765-2077.

3. Keeping with the Broadway theater theme, the tunes of Gilbert and Sullivan hit in Riverhead on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company is the featured performer. Tickets are $15. Call 516-485-5953.
4. Don’t forget the wineries today. Musician Anthony LaScala will play in Cutchogue at 2 p.m., in Mattituck hosts its weekend walking tour and wine tasting at 1:30 p.m., and in Jamesport serves up fun and food on at 2 p.m.
