Question: How Can Southold Avoid Another Tax Increase?
Supervisor Russell proposes another increase for 2012 — what are your thoughts?

Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said in a that he needs to raise taxes by 2.79 percent in the town's preliminary 2012 budget, in part to help cover $700,000 in new costs to the New York State Retirement System, he said.
"The recently enacted 2% property tax cap is simplistic and does not address the need for real reform," Russell said. "The days of employees not contributing to their own retirement accounts needs to come to an end now."
